About ETI's CD-ROMs and other releases

ETI produces, together with its partners, taxonomic 'e-monographs' on CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, as well as video DVDs and PhotoCDs to document the world's biodiversity resources and to provide scientists, students, eco-managers and other users with quality up-to-date taxonomic and biodiversity information systems. These efforts are part of our contribution to the Species Bank Programme of the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF).

The World Biodiversity Database Supporting CD-ROM Series

These are CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs with extensive information on specific details on taxonomy or biodiversity. For example, they may encompass:

• biological dictionaries

• specialized identification or diagnostic systems for specific use, or taxonomic databases

• catalogs/checklists (without keys)

• image/sound/video libraries

• interactive training tools

This series accommodates information systems developed by third parties that are of particular importance to helping to further biodiversity science. ETI subsidizes the publication of these titles if they met quality standards with respect to content (peer review) and software (following common standards, technically supported).

For information on how to publish your taxonomic database or identification key with ETI funding, please contact our head office.

The World Biodiversity Database CD-ROM Series

These CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs are based on ETI's Linnaeus II content management software (or comparable ETI-supported software) and contain multimedia taxonomic databases, computer-assisted identification keys and interactive geographic information systems. They either encompass a taxon (regionally or worldwide), or contain a biodiversity information system covering species diversity in a specified geographic region. These titles provide detailed and complete information systems that are to be used as state of the art taxonomic references works for bio-monitoring purposes, biodiversity documentation, etc. The information on some of these CD-ROMs and DVD-ROMs is derived from ETI's Partner Networks or from collaborative programmes with partner institutions. Linnaeus II-based information systems can also be published online and made accessible through ETI's World Biodiversity Database.
